ALYESKA JUNIOR PROGRAM

Welcome to the 2009-2010 Junior Program. In order to register for any of our programs the athlete and parent/guardian are required to read all the policies enclosed within the handbook.  The registration packet includes a signature acknowledging that you have received and read the handbook.  In addition to reading and signing an acknowledgement of the handbook we are also requiring you to read the Alyeska Resort Rules and Procedures packet. An acknowledgment signature for this packet is also included in the registration packet.

The Alyeska Ski Club Junior Program is operated by the Glacier Valley Ski Education Foundation, a not-for-profit 501c(3) volunteer-based program. The Junior Program is committed to providing high-quality alpine ski racing and training for athletes aged thirteen and up. The racing program is designed to be broad based to accommodate all levels of athletes. Alyeska junior athletes compete in sanctioned local, regional, national, and international competitions. They can train throughout the year. ASSC Junior Team Program Description

Full-time  The full-time program is a 5-day/wk-plus program: Typically Wednesday - Sunday (includes holidays and races) for athletes aged 13 - 20*. Athletes in the full-time program are highly motivated, committed to alpine ski racing, and are focused on competing at local, divisional, regional and in some cases national and international levels. Full-time athletes will receive the benefits of personal management including but not limited to: goal assessment, seasonal budgeting, and travel/race calendars. Lockers are available to full-time athletes for equipment storage throughout the season.* Some exceptions are made for advanced/experienced 12-years-olds with a desire to train 5+ days/week. 3-Day Program  The 3-day program is for athletes age 11 and up who are entry level and/or experienced USSA racers (Mighty-Mite/Devo Team graduates). Emphasis is on basic techniques and skill building. Competitive focus is on a team or local level with some optional divisional travel. The 3-day program offers athletes weekend training with one added mid-week day. The 3-day program includes most holidays, race days, and school vacation weeks.

Weekend Program  This program is similar to the 3-day program in definition, without the mid-week training. Our weekend program includes most holidays, race days, and school vacation weeks.

DEVOS

Devo Team  Our Devo program is an entry-level program for high energy athletes aged 8 - 13.  Devos is a Saturday-only program. Holidays and school vacation training is not included. However, we do offer camps during Christmas break and during Spring break for an additional fee. The emphasis of our Devo program is directed skiing and racing in a non-competitive environment. The few races Devos participate in are at the Youth Ski League level.

DEVO II Program ASC is pleased to offer a new program this year for skiers ages 13-15. The DEVO II program is an expansion of our DEVO program. It is designed to accommodate those skiers who are graduating from Alyeska Mighty Mites or DEVOs and aren’t ready to commit to the full Junior Program.  This is a fun Saturday-only program for all mountain skiers, age 13-15. Athletes will split their time between directed free-skiing with their coaches to learning the basics of race techniques through both drills and set courses. Skiers are encouraged but not required to purchase a USSA student license so that they can race in any local USSA races.  See this year’s Team DEVO Program Overview for more information on either the DEVO or DEVO II Program.  

Season Pass Discount 

Alyeska Resort is giving a 50% season pass discount to all ASSC Junior Members. If you have all ready purchased your pass you will get a refund. In order to get the discount you must turn in your program registration and fees. Terry will then submit your name to the resort. This discount is for Junior weekend, 3-day and full time athletes. It does not apply to Devos, Mighty Mites, or Masters.
