Alyeska Freeride Program

The Alyeska Ski Club Freeride Program is designed to give intermediate to advanced skiers the skills to ride the whole mountain while developing their confidence in a fun and positive learning environment. This program is focused on skills that are used in the terrain park with features like: rails, table-tops, step-ups, gap jumps and the half-pipe. We also spend time on more natural features around the mountain that are suitable for Freeride tricks. Most skiers come from a background of racing, or skiing on the mountain with their family. Athletes in the Freeride program are encouraged to compete in USSA Freestyle Skiing contests throughout the year. Competitions, even if they are not the skiers main focus, give athletes goals to strive for. Competition in a supportive environment fosters camaraderie among athletes, and helps to make friends and memories that last a lifetime.

THESE COMPETITIONS ARE FOR SKIERS ONLY

Coach

Alex Wilson, Director/Coach

Alex has a long history in the sport of Freestyle skiing. Starting out in New York’s Holiday Valley race program at age 10, Alex soon found that taking to the air and moguls was more his calling. After completing high school at Killington Mountain School in Vermont, Alex went on to qualify for the US Freestyle Ski Team in Moguls in 1995. After 7 years on the US Ski Team (including one World Cup win and 3 top ten finishes in both World Championships and the 1998 Winter Olympics) he retired from the US Ski Team. While finishing his degree in Journalism/Advertising from CU Boulder, Alex coached for Team Summit for two years and Vail Ski and Snowboard Club for one year. Alex has appeared in ski films with legendary filmmakers such as Greg Stump and Warren Miller. Alex was also co-founder of the summer ski Freestyle/Freeride ski camp called Camp Revolution in Mt. Hood, OR.  Alex’s goal is to provide a Freestyle/Freeride Ski program that gives kids the opportunity to compete in USSA sanctioned contests throughout the winter in Alaska as well as providing a positive, supportive and fun program the enables all kids, regardless of ability, the opportunity to grow as a person and a skier.
